Comparison. It’s a thief that sneaks in quietly, keeping us stuck, distracted, and far from living in the fullness of God’s calling. Whether it’s in your business, relationships, or spiritual walk, the spirit of comparison has one goal: to hold you back.

Recognizing the Trap of Comparison
For so long, I believed that the people I admired, leaders, teachers, and speakers like Priscilla Shirer or Jackie Hill Perry, had it all figured out. They seemed untouchable, as though their struggles didn’t mirror mine. But here’s the truth: they are human. Just like you. Just like me.
Realizing this shifted my perspective. Instead of comparing myself to their accomplishments and minimizing my own value, I started seeing them as evidence of what’s possible through God. The enemy thrives on comparison because it keeps us stuck in fear and doubt. When you feel like you’re not enough, you’re less likely to step into the calling God has placed on your life.
Comparison Versus Inspiration
There’s a critical difference between comparison that tears us down and inspiration that lifts us up:
- Comparison whispers, “You’ll never be enough.”
- Inspiration reminds us, “Look what God can do in your life.”
Instead of saying, “I can’t be like them,” ask, “How can I grow into the person God is calling me to be?” Shift your mindset from minimizing yourself to embracing the possibilities God is showing you through others.
God’s Promises Are for You
Here’s the thing: God’s promises for you don’t change based on how you see yourself. He created you on purpose, for a purpose. If He’s called you, He’s already equipped you, even if you feel unprepared. Your job isn’t to have all the answers, it’s to trust Him and take the next step in obedience.
Think of Gideon, who was scared and uncertain, yet God used him mightily. Or Peter, who took his eyes off Jesus for a moment and began to sink, only to be lifted up again by the Lord. Both men were flawed, but their willingness to step out in faith allowed God to work through them.
Fighting Comparison with Action
If you’re stuck in comparison, here’s what to do today:
- Pray against the spirit of comparison. Name it, rebuke it, and surrender it to God.
- Spend time with the Lord. Open your Bible, pray, and ask Him to reveal His truth about who you are.
- Take action. Whether it’s a small step or a leap of faith, start moving. God will guide you as you go.
Stop Comparison NOW
Comparison will try to steal your joy, but you don’t have to let it win. You were created uniquely, with a purpose that only you can fulfill. When you fix your eyes on Jesus, rather than the waves of doubt, you’ll find the courage to step out in faith and do the work He’s called you to do.
