Micah 6:6–8 is one of the clearest, most convicting passages in all of Scripture—and we still try to complicate it.
“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”
—Micah 6:8 (ESV)
We live in a world obsessed with performance. Look right. Sound right. Say all the right things. Even in the church, it’s easy to fall into the trap of performative faith, doing spiritual things for the sake of appearance instead of out of transformed love for God. But Micah cuts through all of it.
God isn’t asking for empty sacrifices. He’s not impressed by perfect worship sets or a curated social media aesthetic that says all the “right” things. What He wants is a life that reflects His character: justice, kindness, humility. The fruit of real transformation.
When I studied Amos 9:11–15, I was reminded that God doesn’t just judge—He restores. He keeps His promises even after we fail. And Micah shows us what He’s after when He does: not perfection, but devotion. Not performance, but surrender.

My son absolutely loves The Action Bible! The dynamic, comic-book illustrations and action-packed storytelling sparked his excitement for the Bible like never before. If you’re looking for a powerful way to engage your child with Scripture, this is it!
This is such a needed word in a time when Jesus has become a trend. We’ve got people performing holiness without ever truly submitting. But the truth is this: everything we have, even the ability to obey, is a gift from God. We didn’t earn it. We can’t perform our way into it. And that’s the beauty of the gospel.
If we really believe that, then humility becomes the only natural response. We stop trying to earn what’s already been given and start living in light of it. Not to gain His love but because we already have it.
So here’s the question:
Where in your life have you traded surrender for performance? And are you willing to let God show you what He actually wants from you?
