I want to take you back to the Christmas story we all know and love, but with a twist. We’re going to focus on the wise men—the ones who brought the three gifts. While we often think there were three of them, we actually don’t know that for sure. Let’s dive into who these men really were and why their story is so significant.

Who Were the Wise Men?

The term “wise men” covers a wide range of people involved in astrology, dream interpretation, and the study of sacred writings. They were likely polytheistic, believing in multiple gods and seeking wisdom and magic. This insight comes from BibleRef.com and is referenced in Matthew 2:1-12.

Their Role in the Christmas Story

Despite not worshipping the one true God, these wise men played a crucial role in the story of Jesus’s birth. Their gifts—gold, frankincense, and myrrh—probably funded Jesus’s family’s escape to Egypt, helping them flee from Herod’s plan to kill Jesus. This part of the story can be found in Matthew 2:13-15.

The Broader Message

The wise men’s visit foreshadows the worship of Jesus by all Gentile nations. It demonstrates that God can use anyone, regardless of their beliefs or past. Many people know facts about the Bible without engaging with its truth. The wise men’s story reminds us that God can work through anyone to fulfill His purposes.

Personal Reflection

I recently attended a Skillet concert and felt overwhelmed by God’s message. Despite our differences, God can use us all. This experience reassured me that no matter where we are in life or how we feel, God can use us to further His kingdom and make our lives better.

If you’ve ever believed God can’t use someone like you – He already proved otherwise.
