We live in a world that constantly pulls us in a million different directions. It’s easy to feel like peace is something we’ll never truly attain unless everything falls perfectly into place. But the peace that God offers is different, it doesn’t depend on our circumstances. Today, we’re diving into what biblical peace looks like and how we can experience it in our everyday lives, even in the midst of chaos.
In this series, we’ve been exploring the fruits of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22-23, and today we’re focusing on peace. We’ve already covered love and joy, and now we’ll take a closer look at how to cultivate a deep sense of calm and trust in God, no matter what’s happening around us.

What is Biblical Peace?
Let’s start with a scripture from John 14:27, where Jesus says:
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
This isn’t the kind of peace the world offers, the kind that fades as soon as life gets hard. Jesus gives us a peace that is stable, lasting, and not dependent on our circumstances. It’s the type of peace that anchors us when life feels overwhelming, the kind that doesn’t make sense to those who don’t know Jesus.
In Philippians 4:6-7, we see that peace is a gift from God:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
This passage highlights that peace isn’t just the absence of stress or conflict – it’s something deeper. It’s a calm that transcends our understanding, a gift that comes when we surrender our anxieties to God and trust in His sovereignty.
Biblical peace is rooted in the knowledge that God is in control, even when things feel out of control. It’s not just about feeling calm when everything is going well, but having an unshakable trust in God, even in the storms of life.
Experiencing Peace in Chaos
The world tells us that peace comes when we have everything under control, when we’re financially secure, when our relationships are solid, and when life is smooth. But the peace that God offers is so much more than that. It’s a peace that exists even when everything around us feels like it’s falling apart.
In John 16:33, Jesus tells us:
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Jesus is clear: we will face trouble in this world. But the beauty of His promise is that even in the midst of that trouble, we can have peace. God’s peace is not based on our external circumstances but on the unchanging truth that He has already overcome the world.
I remember a time in my life when everything felt chaotic. There were so many unknowns, and I was carrying a lot of anxiety about what the future held. But in that season, God gently reminded me to trust Him, to release the need to control everything and simply trust that He had a plan. That peace didn’t come instantly, but as I surrendered my worries to God, I found a calm that didn’t make sense in the face of what was happening around me.
When we trust in God’s sovereignty, when we truly believe that He is in control and working for our good, we can let go of the anxiety that comes from trying to control everything ourselves. This surrender brings peace, even when life doesn’t make sense.
Cultivating Peace in Everyday Life
So how do we experience this kind of peace on a daily basis? Here are some practical ways to cultivate peace in your life:
Spend Time with God
Isaiah 26:3 tells us:
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.”
Peace comes when we fix our minds on God. Spending intentional time with Him, through prayer, reading the Bible, and worship, helps us center our hearts on His truth. When we make time to sit in His presence, we’re reminded of who He is and that He’s in control, which naturally leads to peace.

If your prayer life feels distracted or dry, Fervent by Priscilla Shirer is a must-read. It’s not fluffy, it’s a straight-up battle plan for getting strategic and intentional in prayer. Practical, powerful, and rooted in Scripture. Highly recommend. Grab it here.
Practice Gratitude
Gratitude and peace often go hand in hand. When we focus on what God has already done in our lives and the blessings He’s given us, it’s easier to let go of the worries that steal our peace.
Practical tip: Start each day by thanking God for a few specific blessings. Shifting your focus to what’s right in your life helps foster a heart of peace.
Let Go of Control
Many of us struggle with a lack of peace because we’re trying to control things that are out of our hands. The more we surrender to God, the more peace we’ll experience.
Practical tip: Take time to pray over the areas where you feel most anxious or out of control. Ask God to help you release those things to Him, trusting that He will take care of them.
Pray for Peace
In Colossians 3:15, we’re told:
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.”
Peace is something we can actively ask for. When we invite God to fill us with His peace, we are opening ourselves up to the calm that only He can provide.
Practical tip: End your day with a prayer asking God for peace over your thoughts, relationships, and circumstances. Make it a daily practice to ask for peace, especially in the areas where you feel the most unsettled.
Be a Peacemaker
Matthew 5:9 says:
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”
True peace isn’t just internal, it extends into our relationships with others. One of the ways we can reflect God’s peace is by seeking peace with those around us, whether that’s resolving conflicts or offering grace in difficult situations.
As you reflect on today’s topic, I want to encourage you to think about where in your life you need peace. Is there an area where you feel anxious or out of control? How can you invite God’s peace into that space?
Peace isn’t something you have to strive for on your own, it’s something God freely offers when we trust Him. This week, I challenge you to intentionally seek peace by spending time with God, practicing gratitude, and releasing your worries to Him.
If peace feels out of reach right now, you’re not alone but you’re not without help.
