Have you ever felt like you’re the only one trying to live for Jesus? Like you’re the weird one in the friend group for caring about what He says? Or maybe you’re even the outcast at youth group because you actually choose holiness while everyone else runs the other way?

If that’s a yes, I want you to know: you are not alone.

I’ve always felt like I didn’t quite fit—too bold for the world, too different for the church. I have blue hair, big gauges, piercings, and I love Jesus with everything in me. And yeah, that combo can make you feel like you don’t belong anywhere. But God has shown me again and again: standing firm when no one else does matters more than we realize.

This post is for the one who feels alone in their faith. We’re going to talk about bold obedience, quiet courage, and why your faithfulness matters even when no one else understands.

Daniel: An Example of Faithful Resistance

Daniel was a teenager, exiled in Babylon, surrounded by pressure and temptation. Still, he refused to compromise. In Daniel 1:8, we read:

“But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the king’s food, or with the wine that he drank. Therefore he asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not to defile himself.”

This wasn’t a public protest. This was quiet conviction. Daniel chose to honor God privately—and God showed up. At the end of 21 days, Daniel and his friends looked healthier and stronger than those who had eaten the king’s food. God honored Daniel’s obedience.

Later, in Daniel 6:10, we see his continued faithfulness:

“When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house… He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed… as he had done previously.”

That document banned prayer. But Daniel didn’t panic. He didn’t make a scene. He just kept doing what he had always done—trusting that obeying God would be worth it.

And it was.

God didn’t just save him from lions. He used Daniel’s faith to transform a kingdom:

“I make a decree, that in all my royal dominion people are to tremble and fear before the God of Daniel… He delivers and rescues, he works signs and wonders… He who has saved Daniel from the power of the lions.” (Daniel 6:26–27)

One man’s quiet obedience led to a national declaration of God’s power. That’s what faith can do.

Standing Firm in Your Reality

You may not be in Babylon, but you’re in a battle. Maybe you’re the only believer in your family. Maybe you’re trying to stay pure while your friends say it’s not that serious. Maybe you’re leaving a relationship that doesn’t honor God. Maybe you’re the one who actually believes the Bible when no one else seems to care.

And maybe it’s exhausting.

But you are not crazy. You are not wrong. You’re not too intense.

You’re just choosing Jesus—and sometimes that means standing alone.

My son absolutely loves The Action Bible! The dynamic, comic-book illustrations and action-packed storytelling sparked his excitement for the Bible like never before. If you’re looking for a powerful way to engage your child with Scripture, this is it!

First Peter 3 and the Call to Courage

“But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you—yet do it with gentleness and respect.” (1 Peter 3:14–16)

You won’t just be misunderstood. You’ll be slandered. Count on it. That’s why you need to armor up. (If you haven’t already, check out the Armor of God series for the full breakdown of how to stand firm when it’s hard.)

You don’t need to be loud. But you do need to be ready.

Ready to explain your hope. Ready to show love. Ready to answer with gentleness. This isn’t about having a theology degree. It’s about knowing the God who saved you—and being willing to share why that matters.

Jesus Stood Alone Too

Jesus knows what it’s like to stand alone. He stood silent when accused. He walked toward the cross when everyone else walked away. And He did it so we would never have to be truly alone.

So yes, your quiet “no” to temptation, your awkward “yes” to obedience, your refusal to blend in—it all matters.

You may never see the fruit. But your faithfulness is planting seeds.

The obedience of others—preachers, artists, mentors—led me to Jesus. And your obedience may be the seed that leads someone else.
