I’ve been reflecting deeply on the amazing truth of God’s holiness and how it should completely realign our priorities. Too often, we find ourselves asking, “What can God do for me?” or “How can He fix my life?” Yet, the reality is far simpler and far more profound: God is good simply because He is good, and holy. Even if all He did was offer us salvation through the cross, His goodness would still be more than enough. And yet, we often take this incredible truth for granted.
It’s not Condemnation
Recently, during a live discussion in the Me and Jesus community, a free online space where we gather weekly to explore Scripture and share our journeys, I encountered a powerful message from Haley Mulenda. She reminded us that if we truly grasped how holy God is, we wouldn’t continue doing the things we know we shouldn’t. This wasn’t about condemnation; it was a wake-up call, a reality check. It compelled me to consider what it means to live in light of God’s holiness.
This led me to rethink my own priorities. I began asking, “How would I show up differently if I truly believed that God is not only good and sovereign but also supremely holy?” I reflected on the importance of my morning routine, the precious ‘Jesus time’ that sets the tone for my entire day. Just this morning, despite the rush of getting my son to his hockey game, a friend’s gentle reminder to have a “good Jesus time” resonated deeply with me. Even a few minutes of quiet time in God’s Word reorders everything, ensuring that God remains first in the midst of life’s chaos.
God’s Holiness is Transformative
Understanding and embracing God’s holiness is transformative. When I fully comprehend that the Creator of the heavens and the earth loves me unconditionally, even in my imperfection, I feel compelled to live differently. It shifts my focus from “What can God do for me?” to “How can I reflect His glory in everything I do?” This perspective challenges me to let go of distractions, to surrender those things that keep me from fully worshiping Him, and to realign my actions, words, and desires with His purpose.
There are days when my passion for the Lord burns brightly, and other days when I struggle with lukewarmness. I continue to confront those areas in my life where I hold on too tightly instead of fully surrendering. In prayer, I ask, “Lord, help me let go of what holds me back. I want to be who You’ve called me to be.” Even though this surrender isn’t always easy, leaning into God’s holiness transforms every aspect of my life.
Renewed Hunger
This reflection comes at a time when I feel a renewed hunger for God, a desire for a deeper filling of the Holy Spirit and a greater understanding of His character. As I continue to learn and grow, I’m reminded that our purpose isn’t merely to be fed by God but to be used by Him for His glory. Recognizing God’s holiness calls us to stop taking our relationship with Him for granted and to live in a way that reflects His goodness and perfection.
