Let’s just go ahead and say the quiet part out loud: faith doesn’t always feel good.
If you’ve been walking with Jesus for more than five minutes, you already know it’s not all Pinterest quotes, journaling prompts, and peace-sign selfies. Faith isn’t a vibe. It’s a battle.
And we’ve got to stop pretending otherwise.

Good Vibes Only? Nope.
There’s this whole cultural obsession with “good energy,” “alignment,” and “protecting your peace” that honestly drives me nuts and not just because it sounds nice but doesn’t work when life actually falls apart.
It’s not just spiritually flimsy; it’s dangerous.
Why? Because it leaves you completely unarmed when spiritual warfare shows up at your front door. And spoiler alert: it will. Because we aren’t just talking about darkness we’re actively living in a world that’s full of it. And if we’re not prepared, we’ll be blindsided.
The Lie That Faith Is a Feeling
Let me tell you from experience, this whole “if it doesn’t serve me, I’m out” mindset? It turns discipleship into a mood. And moods shift.
So what happens when anxiety hits? When grief shows up uninvited and knocks the wind out of you? When you’re flat on your back with no idea how to get up?
What happens when following Jesus doesn’t feel aligned anymore?
Y’all, this idea that Christianity is just peace and love and soft, aesthetic quiet times… that is not the gospel. That’s vibes, Instagram spirituality. It’s a false sense of security wrapped in a pretty filter.
John 16:33 doesn’t say “you’ll have low vibes.” It says, “In this world you will have trouble.” That’s not a warning to take lightly it’s a call to armor up.

The ESV Study Bible is hands down my favorite. It’s packed with context, maps, commentary, and notes that help make Scripture clearer without watering it down.
This is the exact one I use!
It’s deep, solid, and totally worth it.
The Armor Isn’t Optional
You don’t wear armor to a yoga class. You wear it into battle.
In Ephesians 6:10–18, Paul lays out the armor of God not as some cute metaphor but as a necessity for anyone trying to survive the fight we’re actually in.
I like to think of it like Iron Man’s suit. He carried it in a briefcase, invisible to most people, until the moment he needed it and then boom, it snapped into place and protected him instantly.
That’s what your spiritual armor should be like. Always on you. Always ready. Not weighing you down, but perfectly fit to your body. But in order to use it, you’ve got to train with it. You’ve got to know how to activate it.
The Real Enemy Isn’t a Cartoon
The enemy we face isn’t some red cartoon with horns and a pitchfork. That’s what he wants you to think harmless, fictional, not worth worrying about.
But the Bible is clear: “Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8).
He’ll come after your marriage, your kids, your mental health, your finances, your confidence. He’ll do anything to keep you distracted, exhausted, and too discouraged to stand up.
Faith isn’t a mirror selfie. It’s the only thing holding you together when everything else is falling apart.
Breaking Down the Armor of God
Let’s walk through what that armor actually looks like:
- Belt of Truth: Not your truth, the truth. The only truth. The Word of God. The foundation.
- Breastplate of Righteousness: Not because of your vibes or your performance, but because Jesus already decided you were worth dying for.
- Shoes of Peace: Not the kind of peace that comes from things going well. This is peace that makes no sense. Peace that holds steady in chaos.
- Shield of Faith: To block the enemy’s flaming arrows, those attacks meant to knock you out emotionally, mentally, spiritually. That shield matters.
- Helmet of Salvation: To protect your mind. So when lies come flying in, they bounce off. You remember who you are in Christ.
- Sword of the Spirit: Your weapon. The Word. Not positive vibes. Not affirmations. The Word of God.
- Prayer: And yes, prayer is part of the armor too. It’s the direct line to your Commander. You can’t fight this battle without staying in constant communication with Him.
Faith Is a Mission, Not a Mood
Here’s the deal: the enemy doesn’t care if you believe in God.
He cares if you’re a threat. He cares if you’re too focused to be distracted. He cares when you finally start stepping into your calling instead of spiraling through your excuses.
I know this because I’ve lived it. I’ve lost battles to burnout, spiraled in my OCD, and spent far too many nights giving in to the enemy’s lies because I was too tired to fight.
But I’ve also seen what happens when you finally decide to stand 10 toes down in your faith and refuse to back down.
That’s when you become dangerous.
You’re Not Failing, You’re Fighting
If your faith doesn’t feel easy right now, you’re probably in the right arena. You’re probably on the enemy’s radar.
And that’s exactly why you’ve got to keep going.
Because faith isn’t a vibe. It’s a mission.
You weren’t made to just feel aligned. You were made to advance the Kingdom.
So suit up, soldier. Let’s go to war.
