Discouragement can hit hard and leave you feeling stuck, like you’re spinning your wheels but going nowhere. It’s that nagging voice that tells you, “Why bother? Nothing is changing.” In moments like these, it’s easy to believe the lie that God has forgotten you or that things will never get better.
But here’s the truth: God hasn’t left you. His Word reminds us over and over that He is close, that He is working, and that discouragement doesn’t get the final say. If you’re feeling weighed down today, these seven verses will help you refocus your heart on God’s promises and remind you that He’s with you, even in the hardest moments.

1. Deuteronomy 31:8
“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
When life feels uncertain, it’s easy to wonder if God is still paying attention. But this verse reminds us that God is always one step ahead, He’s gone before you, clearing the path you’re walking on today. Even when you feel unsure of the future, God’s already there. You don’t have to figure it all out; you just need to trust the One who’s leading the way.
The next time fear or doubt creeps in, speak this verse out loud. Remind yourself that God isn’t just with you, He’s already made a way through this season.
2. Psalm 34:18
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
When discouragement weighs you down, it can feel like no one understands. But God does. He doesn’t stand far off, waiting for you to pull yourself together, He comes close. In your lowest moments, God draws near, offering comfort and peace.
Let yourself be honest with God about your hurt. Cry out to Him, knowing that He’s not waiting for you to be “okay.” He meets you right where you are.
3. Isaiah 41:10
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
You don’t have to muster up strength on your own, God promises to uphold you. When it feels like you can’t take another step, this verse reminds you that God’s strength will carry you. He isn’t expecting you to have it all together. He just asks you to lean on Him.
When you feel like giving up, pause and say, “God, I can’t do this on my own, but I know You can.” Let His strength hold you up when yours runs out.

The ESV Study Bible is hands down my favorite. It’s packed with context, maps, commentary, and notes that help make Scripture clearer without watering it down.
This is the exact one I use!
It’s deep, solid, and totally worth it.
4. Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Jesus doesn’t just notice your burdens, He invites you to hand them over to Him. He promises rest, not because your circumstances magically disappear, but because He carries the weight with you. His way isn’t about striving harder; it’s about learning to trust and rest in Him.
When life feels overwhelming, picture yourself placing your burdens at Jesus’ feet. Take a deep breath and ask Him to exchange your worry for His peace.
5. Philippians 1:6
“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”
Discouragement often tells us that we’re stuck or that nothing is changing. But this verse reminds us that God isn’t finished yet. The work He began in your heart, life, and circumstances will be brought to completion. You may not see the finish line yet, but God isn’t done writing your story.
Trust that the waiting isn’t wasted. God is still working, even in the silence, and He will complete what He started.
6. Romans 8:28
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”
When life feels hard, it’s tempting to think that things will never get better. But God’s promise is that He’s weaving everything together for good. Even the tough seasons have a purpose in God’s bigger picture. We may not understand how all the pieces fit, but we can trust that God’s plan is always good.
In moments of discouragement, hold on to the promise that this season isn’t the end of your story. God is still working behind the scenes to bring about something good.
7. 2 Corinthians 12:9
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
We often want to avoid feeling weak, but God’s power shows up most in those moments. When we admit our need, we make space for His strength to work through us. His grace is more than enough to carry us through discouraging seasons.
Don’t be afraid to admit when you feel weak. God’s grace meets you right there, reminding you that you don’t have to do this alone.
Discouragement is a real part of life, but it doesn’t have to define you. These verses remind us that God’s promises are true, His presence is constant, and His strength is available. Take these truths to heart, pray through them, and let them encourage you to keep going, even when the road feels hard.
