Physical stewardship is one of the most overlooked parts of Christian living, but Scripture speaks to it clearly. Your body is not random. It’s not separate from your spiritual life. It’s something God created with intention and entrusted to your care.
How you nourish it, strengthen it, rest it, and pay attention to it is part of your obedience.
Physical stewardship isn’t about chasing a certain look or size. It isn’t about perfection or pressure. It’s about honoring God by treating your body with the care He designed it to need.
If you struggle to steward your body well, you’re not alone. We all can do better at this. We need to know how to and actually DO the work to steward our body well. That’s why I created the Get Moving guide! Connect with God and get moving at the same time. Grab the free guide here!
What Physical Stewardship Really Is
Physical stewardship is choosing to view your body as something God values. It’s recognizing that your energy, your strength, your health, and your physical rhythms all affect how you show up in every other area of life.
When your body is constantly exhausted or ignored, everything else becomes harder. Your emotional resilience drops, your spiritual focus slips, your patience shortens and your motivation disappears.
Caring for your body isn’t vanity. It’s wisdom.
What Scripture Says About Caring for Your Body
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 (ESV)
“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God. You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”
Your body is a place where God dwells. That alone gives it value.
Romans 12:1 (ESV)
“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”
Your physical life is part of your worship.
1 Timothy 4:8 (ESV)
“For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way.”
Physical training has real value. Godliness matters most, but the work you do to care for your body still counts.
Proverbs 31:17 (ESV)
“She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong.”
Strength is not unspiritual. It’s part of being equipped for the life God gave you.
Practices That Support Physical Stewardship
You don’t need an extreme plan. You need simple choices that support your health and honor what God created.
Water
Hydration affects your brain, your energy, your mood, and your focus.
Movement
This can be walking, lifting, stretching, mobility, or any form of movement that builds strength and supports your health. It doesn’t have to be intense to be faithful.
Sleep rhythms
Rest is not laziness. Rest is obedience. It’s your reminder that you’re dependent on God, not your own grinding.
Nourishment
Food is fuel and gift. It supports your hormones, your clarity, and your emotional stability.
Rest
Not numbing. Not zoning out. Actual rest that fills you instead of draining you.
Physical stewardship is not about controlling your body. It’s about caring for it because God calls it valuable.
Why Physical Stewardship Affects Everything Else
When your body is supported, you think clearer, feel steadier, and handle stress with more grace. Your spiritual routines are easier to follow. and your emotions are more settled. Your patience with your kids increases and your energy for your calling grows.
You’re not just a soul. You’re a whole person.
And God cares about your whole person.
