Mornings can be chaotic, whether you’re scrambling to get the kids ready, rushing to answer emails, or just trying to get a moment to yourself before the day starts. But what if the first thing on your to-do list wasn’t checking your phone or tackling that email? What if you started your day with Jesus?
When we intentionally create space to connect with God first thing in the morning, it sets the tone for the entire day. It’s not about perfection; it’s about being present with Him, even in small moments. Here are five simple ways you can invite Jesus into your mornings, no matter how busy life gets.

1. Begin with Gratitude
Before your feet even hit the floor, take a moment to thank God for a new day. It doesn’t have to be a long, drawn-out prayer, just a simple, heartfelt “thank you” for His goodness, the breath in your lungs, and the new mercies He offers each morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). This simple act shifts your mindset from one of stress and rushing into one of peace and trust. Gratitude reminds us of God’s faithfulness, no matter what’s on our schedule.
Think of it this way: You’re starting your day by aligning your heart with God’s. Instead of focusing on what’s to come or what went wrong yesterday, you’re centering yourself in the truth that God is with you and for you. Even if everything else feels out of control, His love never wavers.
2. Read a Verse (or a Chapter)
It’s easy to feel like you need to read whole chapters to really engage with the Bible, but sometimes a single verse can carry you through the day. If time feels tight, choose one verse to reflect on while you get ready. It could be something as simple as John 15:5 (ESV):
“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
Let that verse sit with you, think about what it means for you today. If you have a bit more time, dive into a full chapter and really absorb what God is saying to you. The key is consistency. Don’t worry about how much you read, but let God’s Word be the first voice you hear each morning. It’s a way to remind yourself that His wisdom and guidance are always available to you.
3. Listen to Worship Music
Music has a way of transforming our moods and refocusing our hearts, and worship music does this in an even more powerful way. While you’re making coffee or getting the kids dressed, put on a worship playlist. Whether it’s the familiar lyrics of a favorite song or a new track that resonates with your spirit, let the music be your prayer.
The beauty of worship music is that it helps us speak to God even when we don’t know the words. Singing along (or just letting the lyrics wash over you) is a way to refocus your mind on who God is. It turns ordinary moments, like breakfast or your commute, into moments of connection with the One who’s walking with you through it all.

The ESV Study Bible is hands down my favorite. It’s packed with context, maps, commentary, and notes that help make Scripture clearer without watering it down.
This is the exact one I use!
It’s deep, solid, and totally worth it.
4. Journal Your Prayers
One of the most meaningful ways to start your day with Jesus is by writing out your prayers. There’s something about journaling that helps us process our thoughts and emotions in a deeper way. When we slow down enough to write, we can be more intentional with our words, really laying our hearts open to God.
If you’ve never journaled before, start simple. Write down your worries, your hopes, your gratitude, whatever is on your mind. Then, ask God to speak to you. Writing helps you be honest with yourself and with Him, and it creates a record of how you see Him working in your life over time.
If you’re not sure where to start, I’ve created a free prayer journal to guide you through this process. It’s designed to help you build the habit of talking to God every day, even when life feels busy. You can download your free copy here.
5. Invite Him into Your Day
Lastly, don’t leave Jesus in those early morning moments, invite Him into every part of your day. Before you start a meeting, begin a new project, or even step out the door, take a moment to pause and ask for His guidance. Pray something simple like, “Lord, I welcome You into this day. Lead me, guide me, and help me to walk in step with You.”
The beauty of walking with Jesus is that He’s always present. Whether you’re in a rush or have a quiet morning, He’s there, waiting to walk with you through whatever the day holds. When you invite Him in from the start, you open your heart to His direction, peace, and presence in every moment.
So What Now?
Starting your day with Jesus doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. Whether it’s offering a quick prayer of thanks, listening to worship music, or spending a few minutes journaling, the important thing is that you’re making space for Him. It’s in these small, intentional moments that you’ll find yourself more rooted in His peace, no matter what the day throws at you.
