The book of Ephesians will never get old. In it we see just how much God loves us, how He made a way for us to be with Him even before He created the world. I covered verses 3-6 in this post that if you haven’t read, you absolutely should. In it I share just how much God cares for us. Today I’m diving into the Ephesians 1:7-10 meaning and man oh man I don’t know how anyone can read this and not immediately get emotional at just how incredible God is. But before I end up getting all sappy, let’s get started.

Verse 7: In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,

In Him we have redemption, y’all. We are REDEEMED. We are FORGIVEN. God gave us grace on purpose because He knew we needed it.

That thing that you keep beating yourself up about? He’s already forgiven you. He’s already let it go. That was the WHOLE POINT of the cross.

We don’t have to hold ourselves to some impossible standards because we get to accept the incredible gift that is Jesus Christ. We get to sit in awe and wonder knowing that we get to spend forever with Him and NOT get what we deserve.

According to the RICHES of His grace, dude. He POURS it out on us.

Verse 8: which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight

I rescind my above statement – He doesn’t pour it on us He LAVISHED it on us. We are COVERED in His grace from top to bottom. How beautiful and incredible is that?! Him giving us grace wasn’t an afterthought or ‘oh well I guess they need it.’ NO.

It was a WISE decision. And it’s only because He’s God that I’m trying not to question this. Because based on my human standards of what is going on in the world… it ain’t wise to give us anything. We deserve the fate that was assigned to us when we were born. We don’t deserve grace nor would it be a wise decision to give it to us (in my non-sovereign opinion).

But God is GOOD. He is SOVEREIGN. And He CHOSE WISELY to give us grace. Is anyone else losing their absolute mind at this fact?!

The ESV Study Bible is hands down my favorite. It’s packed with context, maps, commentary, and notes that help make Scripture clearer without watering it down.

This is the exact one I use!
It’s deep, solid, and totally worth it.

Verse 9: making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ

I love what my ESV study Bible says about this. “The mystery of God’s will, now revealed In Christ, is to ‘unite all things in Him.’”

His will, dude, is to unite US. He wants US to come together with Him. Is that not the most incredible, beautiful thing you’ve ever heard?!

I don’t know how to look back on my life and then read things like this and not get incredibly emotional. The fact that He cares about us so much and we MISS IT. We miss it in the beauty that’s in the world, the incredible work that He’s doing, the things we’ve been protected from. To be completely honest it doesn’t even make sense that I’m alive right now. It’s only because of His grace that I am and MAN I am so grateful

Verse 10: as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.

A reiteration of His will. So incredible. Man God is so good.

There is so much that He’s done for us that we’ll never know. There’s so much that He’s doing that we’ll never be able to comprehend. But I do know that He is good and He loves me enough to send His Son to die for me. As a mom with a son, I don’t think I could ever love someone that much.

Don’t ever let the enemy get in the way of how much God wants you home. It doesn’t matter how far you run, what you’ve done or what you’ve said. He’s always right there. All you have to do is turn around.

Prayer

Dear God,

Thank You. There are no words to express just how much You’ve done for us and how grateful I am for it.

I ask, Lord, that You reveal to us Your beauty every single day. Don’t let a moment pass by when we take You for granted.

Forgive us for the times that we didn’t see just how wonderful you are and we allowed that to get in the way of appreciating all that you’re doing in our lives.

Thank You, God. Thank You.

Amen
