If you ever doubt God’s love for you, if you doubt that you are cared for, if you doubt that you were created on purpose for purpose, then you need to open your Bible right now and go read the book of Ephesians. Whole thing – from first verse to last verse.

When I first started taking the Bible seriously I dove into John. Reaching the halfway point through it, I started going through Ephesians, too. When I tell you that the Lord spoke to me so clearly I could hear Him I mean it. I really wish I could go back to my past self and get her to read this incredible book. There’s so much beauty in Paul’s words and I know that God was speaking directly through him.

Let’s break this down verse by verse.

The verses referenced here are in ESV unless otherwise noted. We’re starting in Ephesians chapter 1.

Verse 3: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,

Hold up.

“Blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.” Does that make anyone else start to get emotional or is it just me?

Bibleref.com states “This all-encompassing statement indicates that every blessing we could possibly need has been given in Christ.”

Every blessing we could possibly need. Every single one.

Not some, not most, not 99%. Every single blessing.

By giving us Jesus, God gave us all that we could ever need. So in those moments where you feel lacking, abandoned, broken, lost, in need, remember that we have EVERYTHING we need in Jesus. That was the WHOLE point.

In the life we currently live, it’s easy to forget just how freaking incredible Jesus is. We know that we’re saved and that’s incredible, but we get caught in the right now.

“I’m so grateful that I get to spend eternity in heaven right now… but man what about right now? How do I survive right now?”

I find myself repeating this over and over to God, begging for answers and guidance and direction. When the whole time God is like, “dude – you have everything you need already. Why else would I send my Son for you?”

God is All

God is THE provider, comforter, carer, light, guidance. All of it. We have EVERYTHING we need in Jesus. The only thing that we need to do is release it to Him, let Him take all of it and then move forward. We were never told it would be easy, in fact we were told the opposite. But we were also told that He would carry us every single step of the way.

Verse 4: even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love

Fun fact! According to my ESV study Bible, versification was introduced into Bibles in the 16th century for convenience. Why they decided to put ‘In love’ in verse 4 even though it’s the beginning of a sentence in verse 5 is beyond me.

“Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world,”

DUDE.

We were chosen before He ever created the world. Before He even got to work creating the earth He chose us. He chose us as humans to create in His image and then designed each of us uniquely and carefully.

Does that not just blow your ever loving MIND?!

Do you SEE how much we matter to Him?! To the God that created literally EVERYTHING, we matter THAT FREAKING MUCH.

So any time the enemy tries to tell you that you’re worthless, unwanted, unloved, hated, undesirable, wasted, garbage, trash, you can look Him in the eye and remind him who you are. You are created in the image of the living God who loves and cares for you so much that He sent His Son to die for you because He wanted to be with you.

He put a plan into motion to make you holy and blameless.

Excuse me, blameless? Me? The things I’ve done in my life? The way I cursed His name, hated Him, was disobedient and disrespectful and He made a way for me to be holy AND blameless?!

Dude. I can’t even process my gratitude for this incredible God that I serve.

Verse 5: he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will,

We were PREDESTINED for adoption into God’s family.

He’s always wanted us to turn towards Him. He wants us to choose Him of our own will so we can come home. How beautiful and wonderful is that?!

It blows my mind that His will is for us to be in His family. He could’ve completely turned His back on us, destroyed us, forgotten about us, created something different and better. But He didn’t. He chose us for His family, to be our Father, because He loves us SO much.

Let that sink in for a minute. Bask in the amazing power of our God and how He chose us to be His children.

Verse 6: to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.

What my ESV study Bible had in the commentary for this verse really stuck out to me, “God’s ultimate purpose is not redemption as such but the praise of his glorious name through redemption.”

I think about this a lot. Gratitude and being thankful has always been incredibly important to me. When I get something or someone does something for me, I say thank you. My first word was actually ‘thank you’ which is very on brand. That’s something I taught my son early on – when someone does something for you or does what you ask, you say thank you.

Be Grateful

I LOVE doing things for my son but when I do things and he doesn’t say thanks, if he just expects it and acts like it’s required, I lose that desire to do things. Without gratitude, something is off. Without gratitude, why should I even bother?

If I feel that way with my son, I can only imagine how God feels about His children.

If God can do all of those things for us, then we can afford to give Him all the praise that we can muster.

God gave us EVERYTHING

God has given us EVERYTHING and all He asks for in return is gratitude and praise. He wants His children to be thankful and obedient. That’s it.

When you think about all that God is and has done, it’s hard NOT to want to praise Him.

Whenever you doubt His love for you, reread this. Open Ephesians and read it from first verse to last and then try to say that He doesn’t care about you.
