Ever feel like you’re stuck in your faith? Like you’re not making any progress no matter how hard you try? Spiritual growth doesn’t always feel dramatic or obvious. Sometimes it’s subtle. Quiet. Easy to miss.

But God is always working. Even in the slow, hidden seasons. Here are five signs you’re growing spiritually – even if you don’t see it right away.

1. You’re More Aware of Your Sin

You used to justify or ignore it. Now you’re convicted. You notice attitudes or habits you used to dismiss. That discomfort isn’t regression – it’s the Holy Spirit bringing things to light so you can repent and grow.

2. You’re Asking Deeper Questions

Surface-level faith isn’t satisfying you anymore. You want to know God more deeply, understand Scripture better, and wrestle with hard truths. Questions mean you’re engaging, seeking, and refusing to settle for easy answers.

The ESV Study Bible is hands down my favorite. It’s packed with context, maps, commentary, and notes that help make Scripture clearer without watering it down.

This is the exact one I use!
It’s deep, solid, and totally worth it.

3. You’re Choosing Obedience When It’s Hard

You are saying no to things you used to say yes to. You’re walking away from old patterns or relationships that don’t honor God. It might not feel good, but it’s evidence of real surrender and transformation.

4. You’re Leaning on God in Weakness

Instead of trying to muscle through on your own, you’re praying more. Asking for help. Admitting you can’t do it without Him. Dependence feels like weakness to the world, but in God’s kingdom, it’s strength.

5. You’re Bearing Fruit Over Time

Spiritual fruit isn’t always instant. But you’re starting to see evidence of the Spirit’s work in you, more patience, kindness, self-control. Even small steps count. Remember, fruit grows slowly but surely.

Final Encouragement

Spiritual growth isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress. Even when you feel stuck, God is shaping you. Don’t despise the small steps. Celebrate them. Stay rooted in His Word, connected to His Spirit, and committed to the journey.
