Sometimes, it feels like we’re carrying the weight of the world on our shoulders – our jobs, families, dreams, and struggles. And if you’re like me, letting go and trusting God with those worries is easier said than done. But here’s the truth: God never intended for us to carry these burdens alone.

If you’re ready to stop spinning your wheels and hand over your anxieties, let’s dive into five simple ways you can start surrendering your worries to Him today.

1. Start with Prayer

We can’t control everything, but we can pray about everything. Scripture reminds us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6) Start by telling God exactly how you feel – your fears, frustrations, and hopes. There’s no right or wrong way to do it. God just wants your heart, open and honest.

2. Meditate on God’s Promises

When worry starts to creep in, fill your mind with God’s Word. Remind yourself that “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” (Psalm 23:1) and “Cast all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7).

By intentionally focusing on His promises, you’ll shift your mind from the problem to the One who holds the solution.

3. Release Control Daily

Let’s be real: surrendering is not a one-time deal. It’s a daily choice. Every morning, make the intentional decision to say, “God, I’m handing this to You today.” When you start feeling the urge to take things back into your hands, take a breath and give it to Him, again and again.

If your prayer life feels distracted or dry, Fervent by Priscilla Shirer is a must-read. It’s not fluffy – it’s a straight-up battle plan for getting strategic and intentional in prayer. Practical, powerful, and rooted in Scripture. Highly recommend. Grab it here.

4. Journal Your Worries

There’s something powerful about writing it all out. Grab a notebook, and let those thoughts pour out onto the page. Don’t hold back. Journaling can act as a release valve for the pressure you feel inside.

If you’re looking for a helpful place to start, I’ve got a free Prayer Journal designed to guide you through this process.

5. Surround Yourself with Encouragement

It’s so easy to let worries consume us, especially when we feel isolated. Surround yourself with people who remind you to trust God. Whether it’s listening to worship music, reading devotionals, or finding a friend who can pray with you, filling your life with encouragement will help keep your focus on Him.

Surrendering your worries is a journey, not a destination. It’s okay if it takes time. God is patient, and He’s walking with you every step of the way.
