Let’s be real: life doesn’t always go according to plan. Sometimes, you find yourself wondering if God’s plan is still in motion or if you’ve somehow missed it. When things feel shaky, it’s easy to lean into fear instead of faith. But trusting God’s plan, even in uncertain seasons, is what brings us peace.

If you’re struggling to trust God right now, know that you’re not alone. Here are five ways to hold on to His promises and find peace when life feels anything but certain.

1. Remind Yourself of God’s Faithfulness

The same God who was faithful before will be faithful again. Take time to reflect on how God has shown up for you in the past—whether it was a prayer answered, strength in a tough moment, or a door opened at just the right time. When we remember what He’s done, it’s easier to trust what He’s doing, even when we can’t see the full picture.

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23)

2. Surrender the Need for Control

One of the hardest things about trusting God is letting go of control. We want to know the details—how things will unfold and when—but God invites us to release that burden. Every time you feel the urge to control, pause and pray: “Lord, I trust Your plan, even when I don’t understand it.” Learning to surrender is a daily practice, and God will meet you in every step of it.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5)

3. Surround Yourself with Truth

Uncertainty loves to fill our minds with doubts. Combat that by filling your life with truth—through scripture, prayer, worship, and people who point you back to God’s promises. God’s Word reminds us of what’s real, even when everything else feels uncertain. Create a habit of speaking truth over your life, even when it doesn’t feel easy.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)

The ESV Study Bible is hands down my favorite. It’s packed with context, maps, commentary, and notes that help make Scripture clearer without watering it down.

This is the exact one I use!
It’s deep, solid, and totally worth it.

4. Focus on Today, Not Tomorrow

Jesus reminds us not to worry about tomorrow because today has enough on its own (Matthew 6:34). It’s easy to get caught up in the ‘what ifs’ of the future, but God asks us to trust Him with the present. Focus on doing the next right thing today—whether that’s praying, helping someone in need, or simply resting in His presence. God’s plan unfolds one step at a time.

“Give us this day our daily bread.” (Matthew 6:11)

5. Pray Through Your Doubts

It’s okay to feel unsure and have questions—God can handle them. Prayer isn’t about having all the right words; it’s about bringing your heart to God, doubts and all. When you feel overwhelmed, pour your thoughts out to Him. Prayer shifts your focus from the problem to the One who holds the solution.

“Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)

Trusting God’s plan doesn’t mean everything will make sense right away. It’s a process, one that requires patience, faith, and a whole lot of grace. But even when life feels uncertain, God’s plan is still good—and He’s holding every detail in His hands.
