The teachings of Jesus aren’t just ancient wisdom, they’re the kind of truth that hits home right now, in the middle of real life.

Jesus didn’t just come to give us good ideas or religious rules. He came to show us how to live, how to love, how to trust, how to follow God in a world that makes it really hard. If you’ve been feeling distant from God or unsure of how to live out your faith in everyday life, these six teachings are a great place to start.

1. You need to Love Your Neighbor as Yourself

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind… Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Matthew 22:37–39

This one is simple in theory but tough in practice. Jesus made it clear that everything comes back to love, loving God first and loving people like we love ourselves. That includes the people who frustrate us, who hurt us, who don’t agree with us. It means choosing kindness over pride and grace over being right.

Ask yourself today: who in your life needs love that costs you something?

2. Turn the Other Cheek

“If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.”
Matthew 5:39

This doesn’t mean you let people walk all over you. It means you don’t respond to hate with more hate. It’s about refusing to let bitterness take root. When you choose peace instead of payback, you reflect the heart of Jesus and that takes more strength than most people realize.

3. Do Not Worry About Tomorrow

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself…”
Matthew 6:34

Worry is loud. But Jesus calls us to slow down and trust that God’s already ahead of us. Easier said than done, right? But this verse is an invitation to focus on today, to believe that God’s grace is enough for this moment and that He’s already working on what’s next.

4. Seek First the Kingdom of God

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Matthew 6:33

It’s easy to chase after everything else, security, comfort, success, and try to fit God in around the edges. But Jesus tells us to flip that. Put Him first. Trust that when we seek His will and His ways, everything else will fall into place.

This doesn’t mean life will be easy. But it will be rooted. And that changes everything.

5. Serve Others

“The greatest among you will be your servant.”
Matthew 23:11

Jesus redefined greatness. It’s not about titles or recognition, it’s about humility. It’s about showing up for people. Holding space. Listening. Helping without expecting anything back.

Serving isn’t always flashy, but it’s always Kingdom work.

6. Build Your Life on a Solid Foundation

“Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
Matthew 7:24

The storms will come. Jesus never said they wouldn’t. But when your life is built on His truth, you won’t fall apart when things get hard. This is the invitation to not just hear what Jesus said, but to live it.
