No one is as perfect as they seem on social media. I’ve realized that many of us put others on a pedestal, assuming they have everything figured out. One person I greatly admire is Priscilla Shirer. Her sermons drew me back to the Bible, and I binge listened to everything she put out. My son even grew tired of hearing her constantly! But in my admiration, I mistakenly assumed she didn’t struggle with the same worldly issues I did.
For a long time, I believed that public figures who are on fire for God don’t struggle anymore. I thought they had it all together, unlike me. But that’s simply not true. Even Priscilla has mentioned in her sermons that God had to correct her behavior. Initially, I couldn’t believe it, I thought she had reached a level of spiritual maturity where struggles were a thing of the past.
As someone who now openly shares my faith, I still struggle. I often feel like a hypocrite for not living up to the standards I preach. God has shown me that it’s not my job to be perfect but to share His word. Realizing this has been freeing. Even people like Priscilla, who seem perfect, have their own struggles.
I remember asking my mom if she thought Priscilla Shirer struggled with inappropriate jokes. She probably does, my mom replied, but just doesn’t say it out loud. This simple exchange reminded me that everyone has their own battles, even those we admire most.
We tend to dehumanize and idolize those we see on social media or on stage. But the truth is, they have their own challenges just like we do. This Instagram versus reality phenomenon creates a filter that distorts our perception of others. We need to remember that everyone has unseen struggles.
I used to think my best friend had it all together. Before she was my best friend, I saw her in a Zoom meeting and God told me she would be my new best friend. I resisted because I thought she was too perfect. She had four kids and seemed so put together. I thought she would judge me for my imperfections. But God knew what I needed, and now she’s been my best friend for over two years.
Perfection is found only in Jesus. If you’re looking for perfect, He’s the only place you’ll find it. We need to shift our perspective and stop assuming others have it all together. This realization has helped me release much of the guilt I carried. It’s not that living against God’s word is acceptable, but we shouldn’t beat ourselves up after God has already forgiven us.

A Prayer for Embracing Our Imperfections
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you so much for all that you are doing in us. We are grateful for the ability to hear your Word through various platforms. What a beautiful time to be alive! Thank you for the reminder that nobody is perfect except Jesus Christ. Help us aspire to live like Jesus and not seek perfection.
Lord, I pray that the spirit of comparison be lifted. Allow us to live according to your will without comparing ourselves to others. Help us remember that everyone has their own struggles and journeys. The more we compare, the less we can live our lives the way you want us to.
I am grateful for everything you are doing, not only in my life but in the lives of the listeners. Thank you for this platform to share your Word and my revelations. I praise you for all you’ve done, all you’re doing, and all you will do.

Let’s embrace our imperfections and remember that perfection is found only in Jesus. We are all on our own unique journeys, and it’s okay to struggle. We’re in this together, learning and growing each day.
