If you have ever felt like you’re stuck and at the absolute end of your rope, this is the episode for you.

In my Bible study about a month ago, I stumbled upon something that quite literally blew my mind. I had to process it because it felt so personal, as if the Holy Spirit was speaking directly to me and my life. It was a revelation that didn’t come from a podcast or another Bible study; it was just me diving into the Word and feeling this urge to dig deeper.

Moment of Significance

This moment was significant for me, a real turning point that pushed my passion for God and His Word into overdrive. I was so excited about what I found that I immediately texted my mom and my best friend. It was one of those revelations that felt too special to share publicly at first, but I knew I had to talk about it.

As I dug deeper, I discovered that the phrase “but God” appears 45 times in the Bible, more than enough for each day of the month, or even each hour of the day. Just let that sink in: “But God.”

God Exists Outside our Understanding

Now, let’s consider this: God exists outside of our finite understanding. He is infinite, while we are limited by time, physics, and our human experiences. I often think of shows like Doctor Who, where time is portrayed as wibbly-wobbly. Time is a container God created, and He sits outside of it. This means that whatever you’re going through has already been addressed by God.

In that chapter where everything seems awful and chaotic, guess what? The worst part is already written. But right after that, we have “but God.” The struggles in your life that seem insurmountable? Remove the period at the end of that sentence and add a comma instead: “but God.” He’s already done the work; He’s already solved it for our good.

The ESV Study Bible is hands down my favorite. It’s packed with context, maps, commentary, and notes that help make Scripture clearer without watering it down.

This is the exact one I use!
It’s deep, solid, and totally worth it.

My Life is a Testimony

Y’all, this fires me up! My entire life is a testimony to “but God.” I wasn’t supposed to survive that relationship, but God. Kids weren’t possible for me, but God. I thought I’d never reach my goals, but God. Every time doubt creeps in, telling me I’m stuck or a failure, I remind myself to replace that period with a comma and add “but God.”

It transforms everything! I don’t know what you’re facing, but I do know that God is right there, waiting to transform your situation. He grieves with you over your pain and heartbreak; it breaks His heart just like it breaks yours. He hates that you went through it.

God is always present

I can’t explain why certain things happen, but I know that God is always present and actively working. He’s not just waiting idly; He’s preparing something incredible for you. I picture Him like a dad who’s been up since 3 a.m., excitedly preparing a surprise for his daughter’s birthday. He’s eager for you to see the beauty of what He’s orchestrating in your life.

God wants to do something extraordinary, but you have to let Him. You can’t stop now; you can’t give up. Never forget those powerful words: “but God.”

If this resonates with you, let’s take a moment to pray together.

Prayer

Dear God, thank you for always showing up in our lives. Thank you for removing the period at the end of our sentences and replacing it with a comma. Thank you for stepping in and doing things we could never achieve on our own. I pray for peace for those going through storms, joy for those emerging from them, and strength for those entering into challenging times.

Help us never forget the power of “but God.” I pray for the person listening right now who needs deliverance or healing. Show them that their story isn’t finished, that a “but God” is waiting on the other side. Remind us all of who You are, and may we trust in Your plans for our lives.

Thank you for Your Word, for Your grace, and for all that You do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
